Lottie Max exists because making a Lottie animation shouldn't require After Effects, a license, an account, or your laptop's spare 30 gigabytes. It's the studio we wanted, and it's free.
Why it exists
A tiny format with a heavy toolbox
The Lottie format is genuinely brilliant. A few kilobytes of JSON, vector all the way down, scales to any screen, and plays the same on the web, in iOS, in Android, in Flutter. As a format, it's the right answer for almost any animated UI you can think of.
But for years, you needed After Effects and a plugin to make one. After Effects is brilliant too — and a 30 GB install, a paid subscription, and a learning curve that takes weeks. Fine for motion designers shipping broadcast work. Not fine for the UI designer who wants a loader to feel right.
When in-browser Lottie editors arrived, they came with paid tiers, watermarked exports, cloud-only storage, mandatory accounts, and editors that locked half the tools behind upgrade nags. Better than nothing, but not the open, designer-shaped tool the format deserved.
Lottie Max is the answer to all of that — a real animation studio that runs entirely in your browser, asks for no sign-up, stores nothing on our servers, and doesn't lock features behind tiers. Make a Lottie. Export it. Move on.

Your projects live in your browser as .ltmax.json files. Nothing uploads. Nothing leaves your device. You stay in control of your work — and back it up on your own terms.
Designer-first
Workflows that feel like the design tools you already know — paste SVG straight from Figma, draw on a real canvas, animate with presets or per-property keyframes, ship a production-ready file.
Open formats
Export to standard Lottie (.json) or dotLottie (.lottie). Plays in any Lottie player, on the web, in iOS, Android, React Native, Flutter — anywhere.

A small team building the studio we wanted
Lottie Max is built by a small, focused team — designers and developers who got tired of choosing between expensive subscriptions and cumbersome desktop tools, and decided to build the open answer ourselves.
We work remotely, ship from our browsers (just like the studio), and reply to every thoughtful email. If something feels off — a missing feature, a confusing menu, an edge case we never thought about — write to us. The product is shaped by what designers tell us they actually need.
